Inter-Sprint now a Dunlop moto supplier
Wholesaler Inter-Sprint has expanded the portfolio of brands it offers with the addition of Dunlop motorcycle and scooter tyres. The first Dunlop SKUs have arrived, and the wholesaler says their availability means that “Inter-Sprint is reinforcing its name as ‘The tyre supplier for Europe’.”

Prinx and JD.com enter EV tyre agreement
Prinx Chengshan and leading Chinese e-commerce firm JD.com have reached a strategic cooperation agreement. The deal will see JD.com’s automotive department distribute Prinx brand electric vehicle tyres, a new product launched by Prinx Chengshan in 2022, amongst other things.

Reifen Straub distributing Linglong in DACH market
The recent opening of a plant in Serbia testifies that Shandong Linglong Tire has big plans for Europe. One of its key markets within the region is Germany, and the tyre maker has now found a new distribution partner for this country, as well as for Austria and Switzerland – the ‘DACH’ region. German tyre wholesaler and retailer Reifen Straub has taken on this role.

Bridgestone EMIA has “acted quickly” to keep margins high
On a global level, Bridgestone has managed to keep its return on sales at a high level in the first half of the year. And the EMIA region is no exception. While Bridgestone EMIA laid the foundations for the turnaround last year after years with return on sales close to or below zero, the Japanese manufacturer generated a return of 8.9 per cent in the second quarter after 9.6 per cent in the first quarter, resulting in a total of 9.2 per cent for the first half of the year (previous year: 4.9 per cent).

New Cooper control tyre for electrified Rallycross
Cooper Tires says it is “excited” to continue its partnership as the exclusive supplier for the FIA World Rallycross Championship in 2022. The championship returns this season with a major difference – the cars are now fully electric – and Cooper Tires has collaborated with the championship and teams to develop a standard tyre that “not only performs well across tarmac and gravel but is also suited to the unique demands of a high-performance electric powertrain.”

Bridgestone 1H 2022 sales up 24.9%, but full-year EPS revised down on uncertainties
Bridgestone sales revenues shot up 24.9 per cent to 1,886 billion yen (£11.632 billion; 13.764 billion euros) in the first half of 2022. However, Bridgestone’s continuing operations figures also show that operating profit dropped 1.4 per cent to 173 billion yen, resulting in 117 billion yen of profit attributable to owners (down 10.5 per cent compared with the same period in 2022). As a result, Bridgestone revised up its full-year revenue forecasts, but revised down its comparable full-year earnings per share estimates by 10 per cent from 397.58 yen per share to 357.93 yen per share.

Bridgestone Turanza Eco a Škoda Enyaq iV fitment
As part of an ongoing partnership with Škoda, Bridgestone has developed tyres featuring its Enliten technology for the all-electric Škoda Enyaq iV. Bridgestone is supplying Turanza Eco tyres for the SUV in either size 235/55 R19 101T; 235/50 R20 100T (front axle or all-round) and 255/45 R20 101T (rear); or for cars delivered with 21-inch rims, 235/45 R21 101T XL (front or all-round) and 255/40 R21 102T XL (rear). The tyre maker also offers Škoda an 18-inch tyre that is not fitted to UK-spec models.

Up & Running: Kumho publishes first annual report since 2018
For the first time since being acquired by China’s Doublestar four years ago, Kumho Tire has published an annual report. Under the title ‘Up and Running’, the South Korean tyre maker reports on the course of the 2021 business year, which the manufacturer closed with a turnover of KRW 2.6 trillion won (£1.65 billion), a year-on-year increase of 20 per cent.

BTMA welcomes ban on tyres over ten years of age on heavy commercials
Karl Naylor, BTMA Chair, said: “The BTMA welcomes government’s decision on tyre ageing: clarity was needed after years of uncertainty. The proposed measures strike a pragmatic balance between differing views and reflect the critical nature of front axle fitments. We are delighted that retreaded tyres are treated equally to first-life tyres, validating their safety credentials.”

Tyre type approval
BTMA welcomes recent government proposals to strengthen enforcement of the legal minimum performance requirements for tyres. In its response to a recent consultation, BTMA has encouraged government to adopt a wider palette of civil sanctions to improve effectiveness. These include Compliance notices, Enforcement undertakings and Third-party undertakings.
