Motul appoints technical specialist
Motul has announce the appointment of Hasanaat Tahier, who takes up the role as Motul UK technical specialist, with immediate effect. This is the latest move in Motul’s strengthening of its dedicated British business - Motul UK - as the global lubricant force expands its operations in what is one of its key development markets. “Has”, as he is generally known, will henceforward head up Motul’s technical function and all related aspects in the UK and Ireland.

24/7 operations imminent at Carlton Forest pyrolysis plant
Carlton Forest Renewables reports that its pyrolysis plant, the first continuous pyrolysis plant for end-of-life tyres (ELTs) in the UK, is just “days away” from becoming fully operational on a 24/7 basis. The plant at Carlton Forest’s Worksop site in Nottinghamshire has the capacity to process one tonne of tyre crumb each hour, producing approximately 3.6 million litres of tyre pyrolysis oil (TPO) each year and around 2,500 tonnes of carbon char.

AirProne: Michelin’s intensive care cushions
Michelin is growing its non-tyre activities with the debut of Michelin AirProne, an air cushion kit designed for patients suffering from acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Made by AirCaptif, a French start-up that Michelin acquired in 2021, the kit will soon be available throughout Europe following its initial launch in France.

Pirelli approves 400-million-euro sustainability-linked bank line
At a meeting on 22 June, the Board of Directors of Pirelli approved the underwriting of a sustainability-linked credit line for an amount up to 400 million euros. This credit line with a “select pool of international banks” has a 19-month maturity and “enables the further optimisation of the group’s financial structure.”

‘Ministers do not understand how fuel prices are set’ – PRA
The Petrol Retailers Association is feeling aggrieved at what it considers as unjust and inaccurate criticism of its members from those in Government. Gordon Balmer, executive director of the PRA, explained his members’ feelings thus: “The briefings provided by Government spokespeople to the media indicate that Ministers do not understand how fuel prices are set. We have contacted the Secretary of State for BEIS on multiple occasions offering to meet and explain fuel pricing. However, we are yet to receive a response."

East Lothian-based Hamilton Waste & Recycling is opting for Wheely-Safe’s technology across its 35-strong truck fleet, having experienced first-hand the perilous dangers of wheel loss. The recycling and waste management business aims to eliminate any risk of human-error by installing the system, following a successful trial. Luca Frangi appointed Prometeon Eastern Europe CEO
Prometeon Tire Group has appointed Luca Frangi as CEO for its Eastern European organisational structure. Frangi has almost 20 years of experience within Pirelli. BTMA welcomes ban on tyres over ten years of age on heavy commercials
Karl Naylor, BTMA Chair, said: “The BTMA welcomes government’s decision on tyre ageing: clarity was needed after years of uncertainty. The proposed measures strike a pragmatic balance between differing views and reflect the critical nature of front axle fitments. We are delighted that retreaded tyres are treated equally to first-life tyres, validating their safety credentials.”

BTMA welcomes recent government proposals to strengthen enforcement of the legal minimum performance requirements for tyres. In its response to a recent consultation, BTMA has encouraged government to adopt a wider palette of civil sanctions to improve effectiveness. These include Compliance notices, Enforcement undertakings and Third-party undertakings.
